HYBRID ELIGIBILITY

This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Houston, TX. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off every other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a staff position based in Houston within the Bakken Asset. The primary responsibility will be to provide well planning, design, engineering support, and daily drilling operational oversight for this unconventional asset. Although office-based, there may be a requirement for periodic travel to the well site in support of ongoing operations. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, with a clear focus on the value that effective planning and engineering can bring to the company.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct over-sight of drilling operations and responsibility for coordinating recovery plans during NPT events
  • Drilling engineering support within a cross-functional asset team with functional interface into the Drilling and Completions Central asset organization
  • Detailed well planning including design, engineering, and drilling procedure generation
  • Detailed time and cost estimate generation and tracking vs. actual
  • Thorough identification of risks and mitigating controls for all recommended procedures - includes risk assessments, MOCs, and ensuring alignment with corporate, regulatory, and asset standards
  • On-going support of contracted services including NPT resolution and technical review
  • Performance tracking (actual vs. planned) and driving continuous improvement in well cycle time and cost
  • Post well close-out and reporting including capture of lessons learned and best practices
  • Coaching other engineers and wellsite personnel as appropriate

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably in mechanical or petroleum engineering).
  • At least 5 years of well engineering experience preferably with an operator. Minimum of 3 years directly related to drilling engineering/well design.
  • Engineering and operational experience in drilling including casing design, directional drilling, drill string/BHA design, drilling fluids, cementing and contingency planning.
  • High degree of computer literacy in the Microsoft Suite and drilling engineering software (Landmark Suite)
  • Experience in risk assessment and well time/cost estimation 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (a team player)
  • Ability to develop ideas and technical proposals with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem solver committed to continuous improvement
  • Well site operations experience.
  • Commitment to Environment, Health, Safety & Social Responsibility principles.

 

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Unconventional drilling experience and/or extended reach lateral drilling experience 
  • Exploration, Appraisal and Development Drilling experience
  • U.S. onshore experience
  • Offshore drilling experience
  • Mobile, willing to relocate and work in other places in the US and globally
