POSITION SUMMARY

The Subsurface Computing Specialist is based in Houston, Texas and will be part of the Subsurface Computing Infrastructure and Applications team, reporting to the Senior Manager of IT Subsurface Computing. 

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary role will be the support and systems architecture of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Network Appliances, VMware, and Windows server based systems for Hess Subsurface Computing IT.  Role will be mainly in support of the Hess Houston office but some projects may be global in scope requiring close interaction with other Hess E&P offices. Other responsibilities will include support of Linux servers and workstations, performance monitoring and analysis, project management, basic IT security, and IT troubleshooting.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • 5+ years of Oil & Gas Subsurface Computing experience including Linux/Unix
  • 5+ years of experience with Network Appliance (NetApp) servers, storage, software, clustering and integration
  • Very knowledgeable on VMware servers, virtualization, and networking
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server
  • Comfortable with server workstation and blade hardware
  • Advanced Networking Skills
  • Strong background with backups and DR environments
  • Basic scripting and programming knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

 

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT, Engineering or closely related technical field is strongly desired (or equivalent work experience); advanced degree is a plus
