Position Summary

This position is for a laboratory technician, responsible for field sampling, routine and non-routine testing of gas and liquid hydrocarbon and water samples, and operation and minor maintenance of laboratory equipment.




  • Analyze plant water samples to ensure established chemical residual parameters are being met. These include but are not limited to: Cooling water system, water treatment system, steam and condensate systems
  • Analyze all plant and field production samples for hydrocarbon composition using gas chromatographs per relevant Gas Processors Association Standards and provide these numbers to internal customers
  • Evaluate analysis results to determine if results are valid and approve/reject analysis accordingly
  • Maintain records of approved samples for monthly logs and reports
  • Analyze all plant amine and sulfur samples for operational control limits
  • Alert Supervisor and and/or Operations personnel of all deviations from established operational conditions
  • Perform routine maintenance on all laboratory instruments per established procedures
  • Perform instrument calibrations per established procedures and/or vendor recommendations
  • Ensure all laboratory results are accurate and timely.
  • Prepare test reports and distribute to plant personnel as appropriate.
  • Maintain State Visible Emissions certification and observe flare stack opacity according to the State mandated regulations
  • Perform field sampling of gas and liquid streams as required




  • Must demonstrate excellent laboratory skills and technique
  • Must have strong record-keeping skills
  • Ability to perform repetitive-motion tasks with hands
  • Must have good attention to detail
  • Knowledge of MS Excel and Word and is preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience with LIMS laboratory data software a plus




  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two-year technical course in chemistry, science or petroleum technology or related subject matter preferred
  • Previous hands on laboratory and gas chromatograph experience a plus


Work Environment            


  • Field Time (in plant work) – 5%
  • Laboratory Time (analysis) 80%
  • Desk Time (administration, meetings, data analysis, emails) – 15%
