POSITION SUMMARY

This Senior Project Engineer position at Hess will lead the successful execution of engineering, design, construction, and commissioning activities for one or more Midstream projects such as gas plant modifications, oil and gas gathering and transmission buildouts, and new field facilities construction.  Projects in our portfolio cover the size range from medium  ($1-20 MM) to large ($100 MM). Although this role will not have direct reports, this role will lead an integrated team to deliver safe, environmentally compliant, timely and cost effective projects. In addition, this role will contribute to the development and improvement of project delivery processes, and provide mentoring and training for early career staff.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordination and management of multiple projects
  • Execution of projects according to a corporate stage gate process
  • Coordination of  resources providing land-rights acquisition and regulatory permitting
  • Management of a project’s internal and external engineering and design activities 
  • Coordination of a project’s environmental, health, and safety resourcing, and ensuring adherence to policies, programs and reporting requirements
  • Development of detailed Project Execution Plans which include engineering and construction activities, cost estimating, schedule and risk evaluation, and project controls.
  • Development of contracting strategies, bid specifications, and contractor/ vendor screening and selection
  • Coordination of technical design reviews, HAZOP studies, and pre-startup safety reviews
  • Delivery of accurate project expenditure forecasting and detailed progress reporting
  • Assurance of alignment of project scope  with business objectives
  • Development of effective decision support documents
  • Completion of project closeout documentation, including as-built drawings, technical data books, and operations handover data
  • Proactive identification and capture of lessons learned, knowledge sharing opportunities, and industry best practice
  • Continuous improvement of project delivery processes and mentoring of early career staff

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical Engineering and/or Construction Management or related field
  • 7 or more years of experience working in the oil and gas industry
  • Knowledge of industry standards, recommended practices, design methods and QA/QC

 

Preferred

  • Experience in design and construction of gas plants, oil and gas pipelines, pipeline metering facilities, gas compression facilities, liquid pump stations (midstream applications)
  • 3 or more years of experience managing engineering and construction contractors
  • 5 or more years of experience managing projects

     

LOCATION

  • Minot or Tioga North Dakota
  •  10-15% travel required
