Continuous Improvement Specialist (GOM Offshore - Rotator) Job

HYBRID ELIGIBILITY
This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Offshore, US. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off every other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Continuous Improvement Specialist (CIS) is focused on driving the Continuous Improvement (CI) culture offshore, ensuring that all roles are enabled to, and perform, CI as an integral component of the Hess Way of Working. The CIS will partner with the GOM Technology & Innovation team to assist in technology deployment offshore and provide input where innovation is required to enable higher performance or where it could help eliminate a root cause identified through structured problem-solving. The CIS will help the offshore team develop skills to drive improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) performance. This individual will advocate for new ways of working to drive performance improvements through a step-change in operational metrics. The role involves training and coaching of team members, as well as facilitation of improvement activities to help drive improvements across SQDC. This role is expected to understand Lean concepts, including standards and standard work, training, and coaching, structured problem-solving, 5S, kaizen, waste identification / reduction, process mapping, and to deepen technical and lean skills while in the position.
This position will be located Offshore in the Gulf of Mexico on a rotational basis (14/14).
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety and Regulatory
The CIS complies with Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) and regulatory requirements:
- Comply with all requirements in the GOM Management Systems documents and Hess EH&S standards and practices as defined within the Hess EH&S and Social Responsibility (SR) Management System
- Understand Stop Work Authority (SWA) and Ultimate Work Authority (UWA) per the GOM Operational Management System Manual, proactively using SWA when necessary
- Reinforce the importance of using and participating in the Safety Observation Card (SOC) and Leadership Site Visits (LSV) programs
- Facilitate and support structured problem-solving for EH&S and regulatory incidents as appropriate
- Perform emergency response duties as appropriate
- Comply with all requirements in the Hess Operational Management System (HOMS) documents
Production, Maintenance, Reliability, and Integrity (MR&I)
The CIS demonstrates responsibility for the following Production and MR&I deliverables:
- Champion Autonomous Maintenance (AM) implementation and support sustainability / recognition efforts through Leader Standard Work (LSW)
- Own the Defect Tracker and drive the reduction of defects through structured problemsolving
- Act as a key driver in the Defect Elimination Process to:
- Facilitate the initial Root Cause Analysis (RCA) while coaching front-line to build problem-solving skills
- Obtain and document evidence and supporting documents for the RCA
- Ensure appropriate countermeasures are identified through structured problemsolving
- Submit RC notification within the required timeframe as per standards
- Steward progress of defects and countermeasures through the system through use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Drive the opportunity register process to enable continuous improvement
- Facilitate and support structured problem-solving, including, but not limited to:
- Production losses
- Recurrent bad actors
- Incidents and near-misses
- Work management planning, scheduling, and execution issues
- Support and provide input to improve:
- The health of barrier processes
- Construction, projects, scheduling, and maintenance programs
- Vendor management and supply chain management execution
- Recognize and support efforts to optimize operational work processes and execution
- Lead and participate in meetings as designated by the agreed Terms of Reference (TOR) Lean The CIS partners and collaborates with the central lean team to:

The CIS partners and collaborates with the central lean team to:
- Act as a central communication point for the offshore team
- Help team members understand and eliminate waste to drive daily CI
- Coach team members to build Lean skills and become practitioners, with a focus not only on tools but most importantly on behaviors to understand why the tools are implemented
- Spend a significant amount of time collaborating with personnel to understand the problems they face – and to help them develop, test, and implement the ideas they have for improvement
- Lead the 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) program with a focus on helping team members implement, and most importantly, sustain through standard work and effective recognition programs
- Champion standard processes, including Standard Work Instructions (SWIs), swimlane mapping, and accurate system usage
- Facilitate Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs) as appropriate • Lead, facilitate, and coach improvement activities to develop an “Army of Problem Solvers”
- Monitor performance metrics to drive stability and improvement through structured problem-solving
- Promote effective SQDCP meetings through appropriate dashboards by working with team members
Note: It is not the sole responsibility of the CIS to come up with and implement improvement ideas. Through working and interacting with team members, the CIS is expected to help them develop, test, and bring their improvement ideas to fruition.
Technology and Innovation
The CIS partners and collaborates with GOM Technology & Innovation team to:
- Act as a central communication point for the offshore team
- Support local coordination for technology deployment and field trials
- Engage in problem-solving efforts to determine technology options to be considered for countermeasures
- Test, deploy, and provide feedback for new technology offshore
- Support and provide input for the local scaling of successful technology pilots
Personnel
The CIS has personnel responsibilities that include the following:
- Agree and review personal performance objectives with the OIM
- Own and maintain an Individual Development Plan (IDP)
- Mentor and coach team members at all levels to develop Lean skills and become practitioners
- Perform regular group training on Lean principles, behaviors, and tools
- Promote effective teamwork between the onshore and offshore teams and between all crews and work parties
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge and experience in applying Lean principles, behaviors, and tools
- Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision as a self-starter in a diverse, multidiscipline team environment
- Good working knowledge of SAP, defect tracker, and MOC systems
- Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Proficient in data visualization tools (PowerBI, Spotfire) • Strong desire to affect positive and transformational culture change, able to motivate others to achieve results
- Strong desire to learn, including proactive pursuit of self-directed learning
- Strong networking, interpersonal and teamwork skills with ability to collaborate, negotiate and influence others in cross-functional team environment
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to clearly articulate information and ideas (oral and written)

Experience
- 10+ years of work experience
- Experience in oil and gas or manufacturing preferred
- Experience in leading Lean and/or Continuous Improvement transformations preferred
- Experience working in an agile work environment
Education, Training, and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, minimum requirement is High School diploma or GED equivalent required
- Lean proficiency; demonstrated practice in application of Lean principles, behaviors, and tools
- Obtaining and maintaining Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)
- Obtaining and maintaining Production Safety Systems training (T-2)
