POSITION SUMMARY
The Pipeline Network Modeling Engineer at Hess Midstream plays a key role in Infrastructure development planning and business development. Hydraulic network models are utilized to simulate performance of existing and future gathering and transmission pipeline networks. The pipeline modeling engineer works closely with operations to assess the performance of existing pipelines, troubleshoot, and optimize operations.  Network analysis models are used to justify new well pad tie-ins, pump stations and compressor additions. The network engineer is a subject matter expert in network hydraulics and provides flow assurance for all new projects. The network engineer is a lead conceptual design role and works with planners, project engineers, and a business development team to identify and justify commercial and investment opportunities ranging from 1 to 100 $MM. The hydraulics engineer works closely with commercial counterparts to analyze competitor systems, assess asset acquisition candidates, and advise management in strategy development. Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills are required.  The role is based in Houston, TX and will require 5-10% travel.
 
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Builds and utilizes pipeline network analysis models
  • Calibrates and tunes models to match existing performance
  • Justifies new load additions, tie-ins, trunk lines and laterals, bypasses, compressors and pumping stations
  • Resolves day-to-day operational problems with liquids and solids holdup, pigging optimization
  • Performs dynamic and transient multi-phase pipeline analysis
  • Subject matter expert for flow assurance and network modeling
  • Performs what-if analyses to support business development
  • Utilizes competitor analysis to identify joint business opportunities
  • Evaluates system performance for acquisition candidates

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical engineering
  • 7 or more years of experience working in the oil and gas industry, including 5 years in pipeline infrastructure hydraulics or similar modeling 
  • Experience with Midstream/ Upstream facilities design
  • Experience with pipeline steady state, multi-phase simulators
