POSITION SUMMARY
The position is for an Exploration Geoscientist in the Guyana Exploration Team. Hess has an extensive acreage position in Guyana covered by multiple 3D seismic data sets, complimented by basin-wide 2D seismic data. This highly dynamic team is engaged in an extensive exploration drilling campaign with an industry leading success rate.
The position will require strong seismic interpretation skills integrated with in depth knowledge of seismic stratigraphy and deep-water depositional processes. Competence with integration of geophysical and geologic well data will be essential. Work will support the exploration team and the ability to work at basin scale down to individual prospect level is considered vital. This is will involve regional interpretation and sub regional fairway and prospect level analysis that contributes to prospect definition and risking. The ability to place depositional systems into a broader stratigraphic context and communicate the implications for prospectivity will be highly valued.  This position reports directly to the Exploration Manager, Guyana.

 

ROLE / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Basin scale regional 2D and 3D seismic interpretation, integrating well logs and seismic stratigraphy.
  • Apply deep knowledge of sequence stratigraphic principles and fit for purpose application to exploration and development
  • Use in-depth understanding of deepwater depositional systems concepts to identify depositional fairways and predict reservoir presence and quality on a play to prospect scale
  • Working knowledge of structural and petroleum systems data types for the purpose of integration, trend identification and phenomenon explanation/prediction
  • Opportunity identification, evaluation, and prospect maturation through economic valuation
  • Strong individual contributor and team player
  • Effective project management, ability to multi-task
  • Mentoring of colleagues and junior staff
  • Active participant in partner TCMs with ability to influence operator with technical work and sound reasoning
  • Additional duties could also include data room evaluations support
  • Experience in new ventures and or field development is a plus.

 
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 10-years’ experience
  • Previous Atlantic Margins experience is required; specific Exploration experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience and expertise to include: Seismic sequence stratigraphy, subsurface mapping, well-seismic integration, biostratigraphic interpretation, petroleum systems, prospect generation, risking, volumetric analysis,
  • The ideal candidate will have regional-play-prospect evaluation skills, display competence in passive and active margins and possess both geological and geophysical interpretation experience. 
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills and commitment to continued learning and improvement.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Well-developed sharing, listening, and collaboration skills are highly valued
  • Comfortable with aggressive timelines
  • Ability to manage projects with strong focus on delivery and results

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Master of Science, in a Geoscience field required
