The successful candidate will provide support for the subsurface applications within Hess Corporation. This role will involve all aspects of software support from installing, configuring and managing the applications to providing workflow support and best practices. It is a hybrid role that requires the ability to think and work as both a Petrotech and a member of IT.  The candidate will work as part of a team of support professionals to enable business productivity by providing reliable solutions. 

As a member of a specialized team of Geoscience professionals within IT, the individual will work directly with asset teams in Exploration, Production and Unconventional(Bakken) to guide project work and advise on technical issues. Candidate will have the opportunity to be on the front-line testing and supporting new and emerging technologies in the subsurface domain.



  • Full support of subsurface applications portfolio primarily focused on workflows, best use practices and performance optimization.
    • Ability to step in and assist with installs, configuration, back of house troubleshooting/support, etc as needed
  • Work directly with the business unit teams to guide project work, advise and consult on technical problems, troubleshoot issues, identify and apply value-added technologies and best practices
  • Ability to quickly test, learn, understand and facilitate support as new software is targeted evaluation and/or onboarding
  • Identification of technical needs of the business including areas of improvement in existing application issues and overlaps/gaps in current workflow capabilities
  • Ensure that significant technical learnings, insights and experiences are captured and shared between workgroups
  • Promote collaboration, multi-disciplinary approaches and integrated solutions to technical and business problems and opportunities
  • Collaboration with other IT teams to identify





  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in the petroleum industry providing support, training, and mentoring to business partners. Software installation, configuration, and license management experience a plus but not required   
  • Demonstrable understanding of leading industry software applications and workflows within the subsurface seismic to simulation workflow.
    • Strong knowledge of the Schlumberger application suite including Petrel is essential and experience providing support of other applications such as Paradigm, Paleoscan, RokDoc, GeoTeric, and PreStackPro is a plus.
  • Delivery-focus with an emphasis on task accountability and completion. Self-motivated with an enthusiastic, methodical and diligent approach.
  • Understanding and/or use of cloud based G&G software. 
  • Knowledge of API management, DevOps, and cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, GCP a plus.
  • Experience working through a queue via a ticketing system a plus
  • Communication skills: The candidate must exhibit professional informal and formal, written and verbal, communication skills at all times.  Must be able to create clear technical documentation, and present the workflows to a group. Must be able to translate complex technical problems into clear solutions and present to all levels of management.
  • Attitude: Positive, team oriented, customer service-focused attitude is required


Education, Training & Certifications

  • BS or MS in Geosciences or Engineering required
