POSITION SUMMARY
 

The Land Transportation Safety Advisor position provides support to the Hess Organization through the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Central Services function.  The person in this position shall be a role model by demonstrating active visible commitment and leadership in the application of the Land Transportation Standard and associated processes.  The person in this position will be responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with the Land Transportation Standard and associated procedures as well as compliance with Federal and Local regulations. 

 

The Land Transportation Safety Advisor position will be responsible for building and sustaining a proper safety culture among a large diverse group of drivers.  The person in this position will manage a range of Land Transportation variables applying analytical, technical, and industry knowledge, standards and practices to achieve desired EHS results while working closely with assigned business partners.  The person in this position will manage specific projects and initiatives aimed at improving the road safety issues while building strong working relationships with business partners, professional peers, team members, contractors, suppliers, and external stakeholders.  The person in this position will have broad experience in road safety management, road safety policy & strategy development and road safety training.
 
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Core Duties

  • Technical Authority 2 for the Land Transportation Standard.
  • Maintenance of the Land Transportation Standard including periodic revisions and review.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of the Land Transportation Standard.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with the Land Transportation Standard.
  • Grant any reasonable operational exemptions to the requirement of the Land Transportation Standard.
  • Manage Contractor/Consultant Pro-Active Driving Instructors.
  • Provide Pro-Active Driver Training and Driver Assessments along with compliance tracking.
  • Provide support globally for all questions about land transportation issues.
  • Prepare journey management risk assessments of locations.
  • Review all vehicle incidents to identify trends.
  • Review all hi-potential land transport incident reports and action items arising from land transport incidents.
  • Remain current with any new developments, standards and/or practices related to land transportation-road safety management.
  • Manage In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems to support proper configurations, identify system deficiencies, and recognize driver performance.
  • Represent Hess and be an active participant in external organizations such as IOGP, Network Employers for Traffic Safety, etc.

 

Organization and Leadership

  • Be a role model by demonstrating active visible commitment and leadership in the application of the Land Transportation Standard and associated processes.
  • Support efforts to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of EHS management systems and processes.
  • Develop and coach on EHS Standards.
  • Go to GEMBA to observe behaviors around Land Transportation.  Be a visible Leader.  Identify opportunities for improvement and countermeasures to be actioned.
  • Hazard and Risk Management
  • Support the risk management process and participate in risk assessments and risk reviews where appropriate
  • Implement risk controls for managing road safety performance through work procedures.

 

Training, Awareness and Competency

  • Review effectiveness of existing training and update curriculums.
  • Develop and implement new training programs that are specific to specialized vehicles and or environments.

QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Degree preferred
  • 5 years (min) experience in land transportation management
  • 3 years (min) experience in oil & gas industry
  • Knowledge on land transportation road safety
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics 
  • Knowledge of land transportation incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Knowledge of in-vehicle monitoring systems
