The Network Engineer designs, deploys, supports and improves the Hess voice and data networks under the direction of the IT Enterprise Networks Manager.  He is engaged in all networks-related activities and projects to efficiently connect onshore and offshore locations, Hess offices and oilfields, data centers and strategic partners.


The Network Engineer is part of a small team of IT experts responsible for the strategy, design deployment, support and improvement of Hess global network infrastructure. He is an active participant in designing and improving the Hess global voice and data networks which span 9 countries across 4 continents.


Incident management and support:

  • Provides advanced assistance in the troubleshooting and incident resolution process.
  • Provides tier 3 support to the IT Operations group and their service providers for critical and complex incidents, and provides detailed problem analysis input to complete Root Cause Analysis.

Infrastructure Strategy and Improvement

  • Research, analyze and prioritize existing and trending technologies that are aligned with the enterprise’s needs and processes.
  • Works with team members and service providers to identify opportunities for innovation, cost reduction and improved efficiencies.
  • Responds to business and IT requests for new or improved network services. Translates business requirements into network designs and implementations.

Design and Deployment

  • Design innovative solutions that meet business needs and deliver value.
  • Lead the implementation and deployment of approved infrastructure projects.
  • Transition completed projects to the IT Operations group for ongoing management and support.
  • Create and maintain the design/engineering documentation package to ensure proper solution support and service management of the enterprise networks.



  • 10 + years IT networking experience required, supporting/managing:
    • Voice systems, PBX (Avaya)
    • Telecommunications systems including MPLS, Microwave and VSATs
    • IP networks , routing and switching
    • IT security, firewalls
  • Designed various network topologies including:
    • Routing and IP addressing standards
    • Security, firewalls and VPNs
    • Network performance optimization and measurements (QoS, acceleration, Netflow)
    • Data centers and Clouds connectivity
  • Experience with oilfield environment
    • Deploy telecommunications services for onshore or offshore rigs
    • Deploy network servicing critical facilities serving the utilities or Oil&Gas industry
    • Experience with rig network providers (such as Rignet, Harris Caprock, , Speedcast, ITC, Marlink, Inmarsat), including Microwave,  VSAT technologies
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper (switches and firewalls), Palo Alto, Riverbed and Aruba Wi-Fi preferred


Education, Training & Certifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering preferred, or related field, OR equivalent knowledge acquired by work experience and training.
  • Preferred certifications (not required):
    • Cisco CCNA
    • Palo Alto
    • Juniper Networks JNCIA
    • Network +
    • ITIL
