POSITION SUMMARY

As a member of a multidiscipline team, the Instrumentation Technician:

 

  • Maintains the instrumentation, control systems and automation systems calibration and

    functionality in a safe and competent manner.

  • Is self-motivated, self-managed and engaged in the planning process.
  • Demonstrates to peers and MSV, ownership of the facility equipment and systems.

 

The role assures minimum impact on the facility operations and demonstrates good

environmental stewardship in order to assist with the delivery of production targets, and

maintain compliance with Group Practice as defined in Hess Operational Excellence expectations.

 

This is a rotator position located in the GOM and observes a 14/14 schedule.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge and understanding around Personal and Process Safety

  • Strive every day to ensure any work undertaken personally or by co-workers is done with

    a driven purpose to eliminate or reduce risk from the workplace.

  • Ensure operations are completed in accordance with regulatory requirements, company

         controls and guidelines.

  • Contribute to the safe and efficient operations through competent operations and

    maintenance of process systems and associated equipment.

  • Maintain the capability to troubleshoot, calibrate and maintain safety and control systems

    and equipment which includes:

  • Field Instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level, flow, vibration sensors and

    transmitters).

  • Communications Systems (phones, radios, LAN/WAN).
  • Firefighting and Safety Equipment (fire and gas detectors, fire panels).

 

EHS & Regulatory Compliance

 

  • Comply with the Bureau of Safety Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and United

    States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations.

  • Demonstrate personal leadership in process and occupational safety at all times.
  • Review, understand and utilize the GoM Safe Practices Manual to identify, the hazard

    risk assessment level.

  • Identify Source of Energy and all hazards associated with them.
  • Understand how to identify hazard risk assessment levels.
  • Put controls in place to eliminate or mitigate the hazards associated with work

    tasks.

  • Ensure compliance with Hess Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards and

    practices as defined within the Hess EHS & SR Management System.

  • Understand and manage work related risk. In order to prevent accidents and harm to

    people, to reduce damage to the environment and protect the facility, achieve

    competitive performance.

  • Perform the duties of an Issuing Authority (IA) and/or Performing Authority (PA) in

         compliance with Hess Permit to Work system and according to competency level.

 

Production & Technical Integrity Performance

 

  • Carry out maintenance activities as directed by the MSV.
  • Monitor and maintain primary and support instrumentation such as field devices,

    packaged and IT equipment, inclusive of process measurement, vibration and fire and

         gas monitoring equipment, ancillary packages and the network infrastructure.

  • Assess, maintain, repair and monitor control systems and systems associated with

    compressors, pumps, generation and well control.

  • Maintain performance of temperature, pressure, flow and level measurement control

    equipment, as well as valves, hydraulic control panels and single loop controllers.

  • Provide instrumentation technical input to projects and TAR preparation, as required.
  • Comply with WIN PCS as required, for all maintenance work prior to operation.
  • Discuss plant operation with functional support, as required, to highlight potential

    process safety issues.

  • Complete all maintenance routines as defined by the planned maintenance (PM)

    schedules and the appropriate procedure.

  • Ensure maintenance defects are recorded in CMMS, in a timely manner and to the

    appropriate amount of detail.

  • Calibrate and inspect relevant devices for various systems.
  • Manage parts and equipment orders prior to annual checks or anticipated overhauls of

    major equipment.

  • Comply with management of safety-instrumented systems (SIS) and control of overrides.
  • Understand and communicate the risks associated with all overrides.
  • Following planned and unplanned shutdown events, ensure that fail safe devices, such

    as Emergency Shutdown (ESD), Shutdown Valves (SDV) & Blowdown Valves (BDV)

    operate within their performance standard specification.

  • Carry out regular reviews of critical process control systems (standing alarms, inhibits

    and loop faults, etc.) and communicate issues appropriately.

  • Understand and comply with the Management of Change (MoC) process for all

    procedural, equipment or process changes as needed.

  • Ensure shift and crew-change handovers are accurately recorded in the appropriate log

    and in compliance with the Guidance on Shift Handovers.


Operations Excellence

 

  • Actively participate in the Hess Lean Continuous Improvement (CI), process, striving to

         improve operating and run-time efficiency.

  • Participate in root-cause failure investigations as required to prevent re-occurrence and

    help identify “trigger events” as failure cause.

  • Ensure the technical integrity of instrumentation equipment and maintenance standards,

    recommending changes to the maintenance strategy, policy and procedures as required

    and in compliance with the Management of Change (MOC) process.

  • Maintain full engagement and compliance with the System Ownership plan.
  • Participate in root-cause failure investigations as required to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Inform supervisors of any maintenance activities that could potentially have a negative

    impact on production.

  • Maintain awareness of and challenge all maintenance and consumable costs incurred

    within the operations team’s instrumentation activities.

  • Actively engage in coaching and sharing of technical knowledge with team members.

 

Performance

 

  • Regularly review personal performance objectives and progress with your MSV.
  • Jointly agree upon personal performance objectives with the MSV and implement /

    maintain management and career development to improve and enhance contribution to

         the overall team and safety of the facility and operation.

 

Training & Competency

 

  • Become familiar with and demonstrate understanding of the Hess Competency
  • Management System for GoM. (Refer to the E&P Competence Assurance & Training
  • Standard as well as the GoM Technician Competency Matrix.)
  • Understand and comply with BSEE regulatory requirements of Elements 6 & 7 as

    defined by Hess for competence requirements within this role/discipline.

  • Review and become aware of the competency profile for the role and training

    requirements, with agreement to work with qualified competency assessor(s) to

    determine capability measured against the Hess Standard for GoM.

 

Emergency Response

 

  • Understand assignment, act as member of the emergency response team and comply

         with the responsibilities assigned as defined in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP).

  • Participate in emergency response exercises to ensure a full understanding and

    demonstrated capability of the ERP process and procedures.

  • Follow the orders of the Incident Commander in the event of any emergency onboard

         the facility.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Must have good teamwork and leadership skills
  • Must be independent/ autonomous, requiring little day-to-day guidance
  • Strong Knowledge of BSEE 14C and 30 CFR (T-2 Safety System Training)
  • Strong PC application skills (esp. Excel, Word)
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organization skills
  • 10 years’ offshore and industry experience with Production Operations required
