POSITION SUMMARY

Position would assume the responsibility of designing, engineering or supporting the needs of ND OT PCD assets. Becoming heavily involved with the convergence of IT and Industrial data collection efforts. That allows information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) professionals to ensure that their current infrastructures are maximized. That develops a converged platform for flexibility that supports future business outcomes.

 

Job Role - A OT Server Admin, role is to design, install, administer, and optimize company servers and related components to achieve high performance of the various business functions supported by the servers as necessary. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. Where applicable, the Server Administrator will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center/server farm. This work entails detailed server modeling and analysis.

 

Process Control Domain Definition - (PCN) is a communications network that is used to transmit instructions and data between control and measurement units and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment. These networks have, over the years, used many of the technologies and topologies utilized in other network applications. However, Process Control Networks (PCNs) have several special requirements that must be met in order for the solution to be acceptable to the industry. These requirements are, in no particular order: Robustness, Determinacy, and Compatibility. Robustness includes requirements such as connection redundancy, reduced sensitivity to Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), and good error checking and correction. Determinacy involves assuring that each device is guaranteed access to the network, and in many cases mechanisms to allow priority information (such as alarms) through the system. Compatibility allows SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) from various manufacturers to communicate with control and measurement equipment from others.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implementation of PCD server projects for review by system administrator
  • Core hardware installation and configuration or maintenance within PCD or virtualization
  • Define, document and enforce server standards for implementation of new projects
  • Secure Server infrastructure by establishing and enforcing policies.
  • Report systems operational status by gathering data and monitoring activities
  • Prioritizing information and new installation activities
  • Troubleshooting server problems or outages, collaborating with admins on changes

  • IT/OT network segregation to meet operational requirements
  • Manage OT system IP address appliances
  • Tioga and Minot data center PCD virtualization strategy to accommodate SCADA needs
  • Support new project or data center facilities design needs
  • System segmentation, high availability implementation
  • Existing and new server management
  • Server assessment, and asset collection
  • User management and active directory management

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Highly motivated self-starter willing to accept responsibility and accountability.

  • Actively participates in safety programs and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work or mentor trades preforming installation work including Electrical staff.
  • Willing to mentor and teach skill necessary to maintain equipment after installation.
  • Work effectively with others to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Ability to interpret electrical engineering issued drawings and trace electrical circuitry
  • Ability to interpret various documentation and drawings for electronic, instrumentation and process data. Including blueprints, schematics, Loop drawings, P&ID's
  • Understanding of SCADA and XSPOC systems.
  • Strong understanding of Industrial networking practices.
  • Knowledge of radio, fiber optic, wired or wireless Ethernet for SCADA systems.
  • Required knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking.
  • Experience with installation and management of fiber optic systems or related devices.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in client/server domain administration
  • CISSP or other Cybersecurity certifications
  • Must have experience with network systems (switching, routing, firewalls) and in a client facing support role
  • Must have Linux and Windows server/desktop experience
  • Experience with client/server hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of virtualization technologies including Citrix, VMWare and Microsoft
  • Must have experience with NAS and SAN technology products
  • Experience with Microsoft Server Administration; MSCE highly desired
  • Understanding of domain security requirements and techniques including antivirus and firewall rule definition
  • Experience in process control/critical systems/real time database environments and supporting technologies preferred
  • Familiarity with typical process control system components and associated equipment – PLC’s, DCS, real time processes preferred
  • Scripting experience with SQL, vbscript, PowerShell preferred
  • Must have attention to detail and provide quality workmanship.
  • Formal training or networking certification combined with experience preferred.
