POSITION SUMMARY
The Enterprise Architecture Advisor is based in Houston Tx, reports to Sr. Manager of Enterprise Architecture and is responsible for delivering high quality digital solutions in a fast-paced environment across the Hess portfolio of custom applications as well as extensions to commercial off the shelf software applications.  This position will be a hands-on technology leader and drive the development of complex cloud infrastructure frameworks that enables our application development team to build & deploy new services for our business partners.  This individual ensures the in-sourced and out-sourced Hess pool of developers are not confined to their own IT siloes, but rather working collaboratively to deliver solutions utilizing a variety of open source, enterprise and public cloud technologies utilizing an agile development approach.  Solid knowledge of API-driven, extensible, loosely coupled systems along with demonstrated experience applying good SDLC principles are a must to be successful in this role.

 

The Hess Enterprise Architecture team focuses on advancing IT capabilities, ensuring tactical and strategic direction of technologies, applications and processes through consultation, research and participation in a variety of projects, technologies, workgroups, individual activities, interests and expertise.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process
    • Excellent at building workflows and processes around build/release code through multiple environments.
    • Design and build automated deployments that simplify development, increase predictability, ensure quality through automated testing, and provide safe fallback
    • Experience with scaled agile framework and scrum development.
    • A thorough grasp of agile and lean delivery concepts and methodologies, and a history of successfully applying this knowledge to medium sized projects.
  • Automation
    • Build and Optimize a CI/CD pipeline to release code as quickly and safely as possible, researching emerging technologies, and a passion for automation.
  • Platforms
    • Working knowledge of public cloud (Azure, AWS & GCP) and understanding of cloud service offerings, especially around VMs, Networking, autoscaling, storage.
    • Experience in cloud native application architecture with working knowledge of Platform as a Service (PaaS), specifically around cloud databases, serverless compute engines, workflow platforms etc.
    • Working knowledge of VMware based solutions including virtualization and cloud enablement.
    • Understand the architectural and technical implementation strategies around API economy and Microservices.
  • Tools & Technology
    • Working Knowledge of various source code repositories like TFS, VSTS, MS DevOps, Git.
    • Strong general knowledge of "DevOps toolkit": continuous integration platforms, infrastructure-as-code frameworks, application release automation tools, IaaS and PaaS technologies etc.
    • Expertise with popular automation frameworks (e.g. Ansible, Chef, Salt, or Puppet) and build automation tools
    • Experience with automated testing
    • Experience with monitoring tools
    • Proficient in developing / programming (Python, .NET, etc.) and strong scripting skills (Bash, Powershell etc.) with ability to develop ad-hoc tools.
    • Proficient with Docker and/or other container solutions, and container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes and Swarm (on-prem and cloud).
    • Familiarity with enterprise workflow and integration tools.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work independently as well in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
    • Coaches the engineering development department personnel in the workings of reusable tools and patterns, for example, reusable code

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience

  • 5+ years working with Systems Development Technologies, API Development, Management and support, and Container Management Platforms

Education, Training & Certifications

  • B, S. – Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related discipline
