HYBRID ELIGIBILITY

This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Houston, TX. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off every other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Central Reliability Operations (RO) group at Hess provides Operational Excellence assistance to the Operating Assets in the areas of Operations Management System, Reliability & Maintenance, Lean, Training & Competency and early career development. 

 

This position is a Senior Advisor to the line organization on best-in-class RaM, (Reliability and Maintenance) practices, focusing on driving continuous improvement.    With strong experience in the technical and leadership of RaM programs, this position will help set strategy, provide hands on support for assets as they navigate on their improvement journey, provide practical assessment support and drive improvements in all areas which drives EHS, production, reliability and cost performance

 

The ideal candidate will have an engineering degree (or equivalent), 25+ years’ experience in a progressive organization with demonstrated high level of operational performance. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in troubleshooting, operation, maintenance, and design of machinery.   Experience in centrifugal, reciprocating, axial and screw compression is necessary for driving long term and sustainable reliability of assets. The ideal candidate has extensive network of industry contacts that he/she can leverage in support of asset RaM strategies. This candidate brings strong technical aptitude with extensive leadership experience in downstream and /or upstream organizations.   A strong experience base in operations best practice to drive all operating metrics will be leveraging for this position to be impactful.

 

Strong people and communication skills, sound analytical and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this position.  A working knowledge of LEAN tools and structured problem solving are important.  Project Management (including change management) skills will be essential for this role.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support asset improvement efforts in RaM as a primary focus, but drawing on experience, other focus areas will be targets---EHS, Procurement, Management Systems, Competency, cost and quality.
  • Establish overall asset machinery strategies which include maintenance practices, operating discipline, predictive and preventative maintenance strategies to drive step change in improvement in overall reliability.
  • Establish equipment surveillance program using industry leading tools for predictive equipment condition monitoring.
  • Provide guidance to assets on driving improvements in the RaM space
  • Support the central RO function RaM journey map for long term improvement efforts
  • Provide assessment and auditing expertise in support of asset gap identification and closure.  
  • Provide higher level process improvement in support of asset priorities
  • Support in the development and execution of the Reliability Operations (RO) and Maintenance, Reliability, and Integrity (MRI) annual business plans, with a focal point on technology and innovation objectives
  • Provide coaching and development to the organization in an effort to strengthen our capabilities.   This is a critical aspect of this role.   Development of not only reliability engineers but maintenance crafts and operators in support of higher level quality and ownership of asset equipment which will ultimately drive longer term equipment reliability.
  • Provides strong ties to the assets to develop recommended improvement areas to drive performance.
  • Provide future vision on emerging technologies to drive autonomous  fields of the future (AFOF)
  • Extensive travel to North Dakota to support RaM efforts.   Ability to support asset as needed to drive performance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferably Mechanical Engineering
  • 25+ years’ of relevant Production Operation and/or Maintenance, Reliability & Integrity experience focused in progressive upstream, midstream, or downstream (refining or petrochemical) organizations.

 

Experience / Skills

  • Strong project management skills, including but not limited to:
    • Stakeholder Management
    • Project plan development, tracking and reporting
    • Change Management
    • Execution, Monitor and Controls
    • Close out and After Action Reviews
  • Projects background with experience in planning and executing maintenance, upgrades and/or turnarounds.
  • Experience preferred with advanced technologies to support company Autonomous field of the future vision
  • Strong problem-solving techniques, critical and logical thinking skills, and ability to effectively articulate recommendations/point of view
  • Good communication skills; Ability to work with all levels of the organization and high level of interpersonal skills in managing team members and customer relationships
  • Understanding of Lean management systems is desired
  • Strong understanding or operating management systems is a plus.
  • Major Outage and Turnaround experience is necessary for the role to drive improvements.
  • Experience in the field directly in production or maintenance organizations is required.
