POSITION SUMMARY

The Houston-based position reports to the Area Work Team Manager providing reservoir engineering support. The position requires experience in development plan optimizations such as well spacing and completions design, economic evaluations, pilot development / implementation / evaluation, uncertainty analysis, developing and presenting recommendations to management, and classical reservoir engineering techniques such as DCA, RTA, and material balance. The incumbent will be part of a multi-disciplinary team seeking to optimize the development strategy of the asset.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to maximize asset value, with focus on optimizing completions and well spacing. Recommend production improvement opportunities through a combination of different reservoir analysis techniques.
  • Plan, manage and deliver multidisciplinary projects such as field pilot and data collection programs to reduce uncertainty and drive continuous improvement.
  • Recommend, plan, and deliver optimal development strategies across varying geology and reservoir fluid properties.
  • Conduct lookbacks and ensure lessons learned are captured and applied moving forward.
  • Monitor and analyze well production performance. Ability to evaluate using various tools such as RTA to make improvement recommendations to optimize production and delivery highest DSU value.
  • Provide one-on-one mentoring to less-experienced engineers and technicians.
  • Support Well Planning activities to deliver drill ready batches on time.
  • Develop new wells flowback procedures and support execution of the same.
  • Support economic evaluations such as: AFE, artificial lift, acreage trades, acquisitions and divestitures, optimizations, etc.
  • Represent Hess in State regulator hearings, such as with NDIC.
  • Actively identifies and solves problems utilizing a structured approach to increase value.
  • Support delivery against annual targets such as production, wells online, and costs.
  • Ensure high quality standards for managing reservoir engineering data, ensuring consistency with Hess guidelines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Required

  • Unconventional basin experience is required
  • Minimum of 12 years of industry experience with at least 7+ years reservoir engineering experience. 15+yrs is strongly preferred
  • Effectively presents to peers and senior leaders. Possesses the ability to simplify and clearly articulate complex issues to others.
  • Results and value stream oriented. Makes clear well supported recommendations that align with business drivers and accounts for the impacts on other functions.
  • Proficiency in using well surveillance tools, e.g. RTA, for identification of well performance characteristics and flow regimes.
  • Proficiency in classical reservoir engineering and field development planning.
  • Some experience of Eclipse, Intersect, Petrel, or SQL Server Management and SQL queries.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with technical applications including Excel, Kappa, Petroleum Experts, PEEP or other economic software, and Spotfire.
  • Skilled at working with others such as Completions, Production/Operations, Global Reserves, Finance, and Geology to deliver quality work for the asset.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and influencing skills are highly desirable; ability to lead multidisciplinary projects and delivery quality work on time
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, collaborate fully as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and imperfect data.
  • Demonstrate track record of self-started initiatives to recommend production improvement opportunities through reservoir analysis techniques.

 

Experience: Preferred

  • Knowledge expertise of predictive analytics tools and techniques and some exposure to reservoir simulation.
  • Experience with acquisitions and divestitures
  • Surface network modeling (Gap, HYSYS)
  • Artificial lift optimization
  • Refracture candidate identification

 

Education, Training & Certifications

  • BS or MS Engineering degree in Petroleum Engineering (or equivalent)
