ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Exploration Pre-Developments team at Hess is responsible for development planning in support of ongoing Global Exploration activities. The current geographical focus areas for Global Exploration are primarily the deep-water regions of the US GOM and the Atlantic Margin.

The Reservoir Engineer will report to the Director, Pre-Developments and will work closely with the relevant Exploration G&G teams to address the subsurface performance uncertainty of potential opportunities. This will require the incumbent to use relevant analogs and reservoir engineering knowledge to prepare deterministic and probabilistic estimates of production rates and overall recovery, and in some instances, perform economic analyses. Key aspects of the work are noted below:

  • Interface with, and provide support to, the other disciplines in the Exploration and Developments arenas to maximize the value of any given opportunity;
  • Assist in generating data acquisition programs for exploration wells, and in preparing/presenting decision support packages required for sanctioning exploration prospect drilling;
  • Work with partners and regulatory agencies to gain alignment on well locations, data acquisition plans, as well as future forward planning on exploration prospects;
  • Carry out decision analysis work, supported by economics staff, to determine optimum development concept(s) and work with other disciplines (e.g. facilities and drilling) to devise and evaluate a range of development options;
  • Generate and maintain Hess-independent categorized reserves/contingent resource estimates and associated production projections using decline curve, material balance and volumetric recovery calculation methods;
  • Provide necessary support to the Enterprise to move projects through different decision stage gates.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience and Acumen

  • 10-15 years of experience in the appraisal, development and production of deep-water assets, with particular emphasis on a working knowledge of the deep-water GoM;
  • Exhibit proficiency in classical reservoir engineering, with a strong understanding of reservoir engineering principles, reservoir evaluation techniques and data interpretation;
  • Have a good overall understanding of all subsurface issues, covering functional understanding of geology, geophysics and reservoir/fluid characterization issues and how they relate to reservoir performance and development planning;
  • Demonstrate ability to work closely with exploration teams to perform early conceptual reservoir engineering, typically with limited data and assist with field development planning and economic evaluations;
  • Have strong presentation and communication skills. Confident in representing the team and the company at internal and external technical and operational meetings;
  • Articulate experience of being a self-starter; able to work independently and collaborate fully as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines;
  • Show examples of a positive, proactive attitude. Capable of problem solving and focused on finding for efficient operational solutions.

Required Software Experience

  • Able to leverage commercially available software and, when necessary, develop internal databases or standalone new software products to streamline future evaluation work. Typical examples of the focus areas and software used in the role include:
  • Eclipse and Rubis, Integrated Production System using Petroleum Experts IPM suite (MBAL, PROSPER and GAP), production decline-curve analysis using OFM, prospect statistical evaluation using GeoX and Crystal Ball, project economics evaluation using PEEP and PetroVR, pressure/rate transient analysis (PTA & RTA) using Saphir and Topaz, fluid PVT analysis/modeling using PVTSIM, data visualization / mapping / editing via the use of Spotfire, ArcGIS, RE-Studio and Tecplot and external databases including C&C Reservoirs, IHS, Knowledge Reservoir, OWL, Geopost, GoM BOEM

Education, Training & Certifications

  • BS or MS Engineering degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering
