HYBRID ELIGIBILITY

This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Houston, TX. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off every other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Reservoir Engineer with reservoir simulation expertise to join the non-operated, Guyana Stabroek Gas Strategy Team, reporting to the Senior Manager. This Houston based position is an individual contributor role providing reservoir engineering technical support of exploration and appraisal activity for deep water reservoirs located in the prolific Stabroek block, offshore Guyana.

The successful candidate will become a pivotal member of an integrated, multi-disciplinary appraisal team whose responsibilities include appraisal planning, reservoir simulation, field development plan optimization, and uncertainty analysis. The ideal candidate should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, experience in reservoir simulation in deep water environments and the ability to communicate complex technical issues in an effective manner.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with a cross functional team to integrate recent appraisal results (static and dynamic) and delineate economically robust future hydrocarbon field developments through collaboration with Subsurface and Development Planning teams. 
  • Construct reservoir simulation models to assist with field characterization, development planning, and production forecasting.
  • Identify key reservoir uncertainties, opportunities, and recommendations to mitigate risks and improve project value.
  • Support exploration and appraisal activity including interpretation of Drill Stem Test (DST) results; integrate the interpretation results in history matching of static models.
  • Reconcile reservoir descriptions, resource volumes, and development plan among Joint Venture partners.
  • Support corporate processes including portfolio reviews, internal/external reserves audit, year-end reserves and budget and plan, as required.
  • Ensure high quality standards for managing reservoir engineering data.
  • Collaborate within Hess reservoir engineering community to develop and/or leverage new reservoir engineering solutions and promote recommended practice to support business needs.
  • Effectively communicate results of subsurface assessments to Hess management and Joint Venture partners. Work with team to identify and promote value creation opportunities and influence future development plans.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor less experienced staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Skills: Required

  • Minimum of 8 years experience as a Reservoir Engineer
  • Proficiency in evaluation of gas and condensate reservoirs, with understanding of enhanced recovery methods. Ability to independently build, tune, and history match models using both limited and robust data sets including PVT, SCAL, and DST
  • Strong computer skills and experience with technical applications including Eclipse (and/or Echelon), Petrel, Kappa Workstation, PVTSIM or equivalent
  • Proficiency in classical reservoir engineering including field development planning, reserves evaluation and production forecasting
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

Preferred Experiences and Skills, but not required

  • Experience in scripting and programming with the ability to develop new workflows or solutions
  • Experience with simulation software packages, such as Intersect, tNavigator, Enable, ResX, etc.
  • Experience with uncertainty analysis techniques and tools

Education & Training

  • BS or MS Degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field
