POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting into Senior Manager Commercial, Onshore/Midstream Commercial, the Commercial advisor position will be responsible for driving equity and third-party volume growth for Hess Midstream’s crude oil gathering, terminaling, natural gas gathering, processing, and water gathering and disposal assets in the Bakken.  The role acts in an individual contributor capacity, requiring a seasoned Commercial professional to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders in addition to third-party producers and midstream companies and to identify and execute opportunities with those companies.

 

Internally, the role is to stay actively engaged with the broader Commercial function and major internal stakeholders, including Bakken Well Factory, Infrastructure, Upstream Field Operations, Gas Plant Operations, Crude Oil Marketing as well as functions such as Land, Legal and Economics/Decision Analysis. Strong leadership skills as well as people, process and project management skills are required. Ability to communicate opportunities, recommendations and outcomes effectively and succinctly, towards a wide range of audiences who have various degrees of commercial and industry background knowledge is essential.

 

Externally, the individual is expected to build a network with industry players and Commercial professionals that can be leveraged to grow third-party business.  Furthermore, this individual should maintain a working knowledge of the external business environment, including recent transactions, metrics and trends; use that knowledge plus subscription and public materials to inform and validate work products.


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works effectively with well factory, infrastructure and operations colleagues to align and coordinate third-party and Hess equity opportunities, including drilling plans and pipeline / compressor constraints and build-out plans
  • Primary commercial contact for existing third-party customers, responsibility for maintaining those customer relationships, and managing the associated agreements
  • Works effectively with Land and Upstream business development to identify third-party acreage positions that support the asset strategy
  • Develop goals and actions that align with the overall remit and direction of Hess’ Commercial function; drive outstanding results while utilizing the Commercial function’s tools and processes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-party Producers and Midstream companies in the Bakken to identify and capture opportunities
  • Responsible for the quality of economic analysis and justification of third-party opportunities, in addition to following corporate commercial guidelines.
  • Lead the negotiations of joint venture agreements, acquisitions, and midstream services agreements (interconnects, gas purchase agreements, transportation services agreements, etc.).

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 8-10 years of relevant Midstream Commercial experience, ideally with Bakken and other US basins
  • Strong grasp or the ability to learn and build good understanding of core upstream and midstream systems and assets, including gathering, processing, terminaling, infrastructure, as well as field operations, gas plant operations.
  • Able to build working relationships with Land, Legal and Economics/Decision Analysis.
  • Ability to network with industry players, build relationships with customers and third-party companies to enable systematic scanning of opportunities.
  • Ability to represent and effectively balance business/asset needs with best-practice Commercial functional requirements.
  • Solid working knowledge in permitting, regulations, contracts, economic models, revenue generation.  and related legal knowledge
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to effectively communicate with management, technical and operations staff at all levels and coordinate effective with cross functional teams who have various degree of industry and commercial knowledge
  • Effective in project leading cross functional/cross value streams teams
  • Ability to lead a team of commercial professionals, provide effective supervision on day to operations as well as setting longer term objectives and driving the delivery of those objective with and through the team. Ability to build effective teams is highly desirable.
  • Able to deal with ambiguity, multiple and diverse client groups, and drive issues to closure
  • Ability to handle big volume of work, manage quick turnaround without losing quality and priority, and influence positive outcomes
  • Ability to influence and drive continuous process improvement
  • Change Management - ability to plan, coach, lead or facilitate the implementation of behavioral, cultural, organizational, process, or technical changes


EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Minimum Bachelor degree, in any discipline
