POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Field Drilling Engineer reports to the Drilling Engineering Manager and works as directed by the onsite Drilling Supervisor. The primary responsibility is to provide rig site planning and technical support. The position supports drilling, completions, and workover operations. This is an offshore 14/14 rotational position.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the well program is executed within the Hess Standards, EHS Management System, and the governing regulatory and permit requirements.
  • Utilize the well program and onsite resources to write Plans of Action and create tallies for operational activities. Review with both office and well-site personnel to optimize operational performance.
  • Identify risks and ensure that adequate contingency plans, procedures, and equipment are in place.  
  • Document best practices and lessons learned.  Recommend and institute process improvements. Conduct, track and close out section, job or interval After Action Reviews (AARs).
  • Take a primary role in forecast operations and optimize the dual activity and offline operations
  • Take a primary role in execution efficiency. This will involve work flow mapping on the rig. It will include deck maps, moonpool management, derrick mapping, drill pipe traceability and service tracking, pre-interval execution planning meetings and critical activity planning meetings. 
  • Perform and review standard rig site drilling engineering calculations.  Assist in the Management of Change process to ensure changes do not compromise well integrity.
  • Manage rig site information which includes equipment ratings, drawings, specifications, and inspections.  Work with service personnel and drilling foreman to ensure operations are conducted within design limitations.  Assist with troubleshooting problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience/Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of drilling or completions experience 
  • Prior wellsite operations/supervision experience
  • Demonstrated competency in well construction – drilling and/or completions
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as a part of a diverse operational team
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Commitment to EHS principles

 

Desired

  • Prior experience with dynamic positioning, dual activity, deepwater, and/or international remote operations
  • Subsea experience
  • Workover experience

 

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
