POSITION SUMMARY

 

Hess is seeking a Geologist with reservoir modeling expertise to work in its Guyana Basin Appraisal Group in Houston, TX. The candidate should have a proven track-record of integrating subsurface data to produce technically robust geocellular models using Schlumberger’s Petrel geomodeling platform.This position is an excellent opportunity to work within the highly skilled, multi-disciplinary group that, in partnership with Operator ExxonMobil, has made 15 field discoveries since 2015, and had first production from the Liza Phase 1 Development in December 2019.

 

The role will include:

  • Evaluating/influencing appraisal strategies for new discoveries and building static models to influence the Operator, support field development/appraisal strategies, and field sanction decisions
  • Providing technical work to underpin key investment decisions, as well supporting activities such as end of year reserves booking, and production readiness planning

 

The successful candidate will have strong quantitative skills, an understanding of oil field value drivers, and a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of geomodeling, with emphasis on practical applications in deep water depositional environments. Prior experience in both field appraisal/development and field production is desirable.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build high quality fit-for-purpose integrated static reservoir models that synthesize all the available subsurface data;
  • Maintaining existing geomodels through incorporation of new data as available;
  • Evaluate the potential range of hydrocarbon volumes in place, with appropriately quantified uncertainties;
  • Provide geoscience input into depletion planning, appraisal strategies, and individual well proposals;
  • Seek opportunities to add value to existing future developments through the identification of new appraisal/development/infill opportunities, smarter development options, or cost reductions;
  • Collaborate with the Hess geomodeling community to identify and promote recommended practices; and, coach and mentor junior geoscientists.
  • This is an ideal role for an experienced, innovative and ambitious geologist who wishes to be actively contributing to successful exploration and development projects.

 

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry
  • Broad understanding of core principles of Upstream business
  • Specialist knowledge in building complex static reservoir models in Deepwater clastic depositional environments (some carbonate experience desirable, but not essential)
  • Experienced in seismic interpretation, reservoir characterization and petrophysics; knowledge in sedimentology and reservoir engineering is preferable.
  • Proficient user in Petrel modeling software (essential)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with sound influencing capabilities
  • Ability to articulate and clearly communicate problems and solutions in a concise and logical manner
  • Free thinker with the ability to find alternatives to conventional methods or new ways of doing work to tackle complex problems

  • Works well in a collaborative environment; actively shares best practices and is a team player

 

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Geology or Earth Sciences related
