POSITION SUMMARY
The Principal Advisor, Subsurface Technology is a Houston-based position that reports to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Subsurface technology has been recognized by Hess’ Executive Committee as a critical enabler to maximize shareholder value and become the industry’s best performing energy investment. This position drives the fusion between classical subsurface methods and the exponential impact to be realized by leveraging new computing paradigms and machine learning methods. The accountabilities of this position include defining, enabling and implementing technology breakthroughs that deliver superior asset performance.  This includes blending analytical, numerical and data-driven modeling approaches to automate, augment or improve reservoir management efforts, including reservoir characterization, forecasts, operational optimization; conversion of resources to reserves and application of enhanced oil recovery. The role will be instrumental in delivering increased production and reserves, reducing the operating and capital cost and increasing the work efficiency.

 

This position will engage with key service providers and suppliers, start-ups, research institutions, both inside and outside of the industry. The role will include a technology surveillance component to develop and administer the Hess Technology Funnel. This position will also interface with key internal stakeholders, such as subsurface and asset management teams, as well as central functions such as the Wells, Production, Facilities, Projects, Global Reserves and Information Technology organizations. The Principal Advisor, Subsurface Technology will be a respected subject matter expert with strong relationships across Hess and a well-developed network both inside and outside the industry.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the Upstream Oil & Gas industry, with global field experience including offshore and unconventional assets from the conceptual development phase through efficient production delivery
  • Deep and free thinker with ability to find alternatives to conventional methods or new ways of doing work
  • Excellent communication skills – can effectively explain project and technology strategies and risks at all levels, and deliver recommendations to senior executives as well as provide clear guidance to technical staff; strong influencing capabilities
  • Works well in a collaborative environment; actively shares best practices and is a team player
  • Ardent Networker – across industry, outside of industry, professional societies

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; advanced degree preferred
