POSITION SUMMARY


The role involves implementation of Operational Excellence in Hess, which is underpinned by key strategies for EHS, Integrity, Reliability, Asset Optimization and Cost management. The area of focus will be Asset Optimization. The Production Engineer has responsibilities in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People (SQDCP).
 

The core function of Production Engineers (PE) is to help the asset optimize production deploying the “Hess Way of Working.” Normal job deliverables include development projects, production optimization projects, modeling well operating limits and integrated system capacities, analyzing the performance of existing and planned wells, gathering systems and facilities to ensure optimum production delivery from Hess' assets. PE serve as the focal point between the Offshore Operations Team and Onshore Discipline Engineers and supporting functions. They optimize production by providing a broad range of engineering, technical and operational input. The nature of work can be brownfield or greenfield and the assets can be Hess-operated or operated by others (OBO).
 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

EHS & Regulatory Compliance

 

  • Understand enterprise and asset EHS targets
  • Support the design and execution of new wells and well interventions, to meet/beat asset EHS targets through assessments (such as risk assessments and Hazid/Hazops) to assure that Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday is Home Safe
  • Support the Safety Observation Card and the Leadership Site Visit (LSV) program when offshore
  • Foster a proactive safety culture in thought and action

 

Production and Cost Deliverables

 

Production Optimization:

  • Responsible for well production/injection surveillance
  • Model the inflow and outflow system to optimize production. This includes completion performance (flux) modeling, inflow and outflow performance modelling, nodal analysis and Integrated Production Modeling (IPM)
  • Provide support for production-related well problems (lift, flow assurance and hardware/software issues)
  • Collaborate with Subsurface, Onshore Operations Engineers and Reliability Engineers to optimize production and manage/reduce production constraints and downtime
  • Provide guidance for monitoring, managing and remediating downhole corrosion, hydrate, scale, waxes, paraffins, asphaltenes, including chemical treatment and well interventions
  • Establish and explain the Well Operating Envelope (WOE) and provide well management guidelines to offshore. Utilize trending and visualization tools to validate production and allocation data with calibrated models to ensure compliance with specified operating limits.
  • Function as Project Manager for intervention projects following applicable aspects of the “Hess Way of Projects” and manages multidisciplinary teams to frame/screen and refine and safely execute interventions

 

Greenfield Developments:

  • Input into well concept selection (sand control needs, multi-zone completions, smartness of wells, artificial lift and flow assurance requirements, virtual metering and such)
  • Interface with Drilling, Completions, Subsurface, Facilities and Operations engineering personnel on well design and construction.
  • Determine well completion attributes required (tubing size, sand control, artificial lift, gauge, chemical injection requirements and such) and input into the Well SOR

 

Value Estimation:

  • Coordinate economic analysis with Reservoir Engineer and Decision Analysis (DA) group to support production optimization and interventions
  • Input into decision analysis of production optimization opportunities

 

Business Process:

  • Provide hub availability and reliability assumptions, Short-Term Production Forecasts (STPF) and uncertainty analysis for Monthly Business Reviews and the yearly Budget and Plan process plan process
  • Support the annual Asset Value Plan (AVP) and Reserves Process by providing input into the Long-Term Production Forecast (LTPF) generated by the Reservoir Engineer and by providing and/or supporting life-of-field operating expenditures (OPEX), Capex and Abex estimates for OBO assets

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • 15+ years relevant industry experience in Production Engineering.
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, etc.) or equivalent discipline
  • Field Operations experience a plus (Facilities Engineering, Operations Engineering)
  • Skilled in the use of Production Engineering software (Nodal modelling software, OFM, PI) and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Projects, Outlook)
  • Ability to work with Wellcat or reservoir simulators a plus
  • Knowledge of hydrocarbon and water Production Engineering concepts
  • Deepwater, floating facility, subsea operating experience, hardware and well completions knowledge a plus
  • Familiar with risk management, work management, defect elimination, Management of Change (MOC) and document control processes
  • Helicopter Underwater Emergency Training (HUET)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and complex problem-solving skills with attention to detail and process improvements
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision in a diverse, dynamic and multidisciplinary team environment
