POSITION SUMMARY

The Houston based position reports directly to the Head of Projects and Facilities Engineering (PFE) and shall provide systems level Facilities Engineering leadership to the PFE function and to the Enterprise, and will be accountable for the following areas of work:

  • Serving as the Hess Technical Authority (TA2 designation) for Facilities and Systems Engineering in support of onshore, offshore, international, upstream and midstream teams and assets
  • Champion Hess Operational Management System Element 7 covering Facilities Engineering and Design
  • Serve as integrated Facilities system lead role, coordinating interfaces between other Facilities Engineering disciplines in support of greenfield, brownfield projects, operations day-to-day projects, technical troubleshooting and reliability support, RCA, incident investigations, turnarounds, etc. Also, this person will be responsible for the health of facility engineering disciplines and network
  • Connected with Projects & Developments TA2, will integrate system engineering and Project Management synergies across the Enterprise
  • Champions facility and infrastructure related innovation and technology identification and infusion applications (in conjunction with CTO team and asset technology leaders); across upstream and midstream sectors

  

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Serve as TA2 for Facilities Engineering and Design in addition to broader systems engineering and integration
  • Interaction with Technology organization in examining and developing Facilities Engineering centric strategic approaches to various innovation and technology models and applications
  • Seek out opportunities to assess process and design innovation opportunities
  • Participate in Facilities Engineering focused Industry Outreach and Industry Standards Committees for Hess PFE
  • Provide a consistent and comprehensive approach to Hess Facilities Engineering Design specifications, guidelines, and standards
  • Guides and promotes culture of integrated and systems thinking
  • Guides and promotes culture of accountability and execution orientation
  • Refinement of Hess Operational Management System with regards to Facilities Engineering and Design. Champion review, consolidation and/or dissolution of existing and new Standards, Guidelines and Specifications for Facilities Engineering
  • Support implementing the Hess Way for Projects with regards to Facilities Engineering and Design and its expansion into MRI and other Functions
  • Represent the integrated systems-level facilities technical design, process safety, and troubleshooting support, bringing in technical authority expertise as needed to support global asset footprint. Responsible for coordination of multidisciplinary resources, and interaction with assets to manage the support, follow up, close out, and documentation of asset technical support
  • Leads critical asset support for technical issues, including incident investigation root cause analysis
  • Identifies and develops strategic ESG technology and innovation approaches through the facilities design and engineering lens. Provides corporate level strategies and works with asset counterparts in application specific areas
  • Actively participates in the design, procurement, installation, maintenance and/or enhancement of equipment, facilities, and utilities to support assets – HOMS Tier II and III Assurance support
  • Provide facilities engineering technical expertise in support of enterprise needs

 

Key Relationships:

  • Operations, Projects, MR&I and D&C – primary relationship for individual, where the expectation is for him/her to work closely with directors, sr. managers, line leaders, engineers and operators (Hess employees and contractors) in a variety of disciplines 
  • EHS – key supplier of processes to ensure people are kept safe and that no harm impacts the environment while executing work to deliver against the objectives
  • Commercial – key supplier to ensure that the workflow is not compromised by partner issues and that the associated hydrocarbons are marketed to maximize value
  • Regulatory – key supplier of regulatory statues and rules as well as guidelines around processes to ensure that regulatory commitments of any development are understood along with the impact on costs
  • Contractors – An essential element of the delivery model will include building strong strategic relationships with Hess key contractor network
  • Operational Technology – This group intersects facilities team via jointly exploring and developing innovation and technology frameworks for projects and facilities advancements
  • Information Technology – intersection occurs with project and operational software vetting and support, data analytics through facility related matters, data value chain from end device, through SCADA/telecoms, to historian/cloud locations, and cybersecurity for facility/operational technology related matters
  • Global Supply Chain – A key partner for asset life cycle in expanding Hess capabilities, delivery certainty, and technical excellence through long term relationships

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 

  • Good knowledge of industry standards, best practices and design methods.
  • Experience/knowledge of Lean principles and systems thinking
  • Familiar with risk management, work management, defect elimination, MOC and document control processes
  • Has performed in an engineering management capacity, managing direct reports and contract facilities engineering
  • Facility Offshore engineering, and onshore upstream and midstream facilities engineering experience required. Process systems design experience considered a plus
  • Full suite of offshore, onshore, upstream, midstream, domestic, and international experience preferred
  • Strong experience integrating process safety and reliability into engineering design
  • Experience working across the entire asset life cycle
  • Experience/knowledge of ESG related technologies and abatement techniques for facilities design and engineering
  • Working knowledge of facilities and infrastructure related innovations and technologies required, with a desire to continue to learn, share, and lead
  • Preference given to candidates with previous employment with operator and contractor engineering experience
  • Excellent communication skills: individual must be able to effectively explain project and operational strategies, risks and carry recommendations to senior managers and executives as well as provide clear guidance to team members
  • Strong experience in occupational and process safety, including managing and interfacing with internal and external project/asset stakeholders
  • Works well in a collaborative environment; actively shares best practices and is a hands-on team player
  • Strong MS Office skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Other software and/or programming proficiencies will be valued

 

Education, Training & Certifications: 

  • BS Engineering Degree in suitable discipline; advanced degree preferred
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience
