Hess Corporation is seeking a high performing individual for a dynamic gas plant position in the very collaborative accounting team responsible for Hess’s North Dakota plants. 


As part of the team, this role is responsible for the critical process of preparing and processing the monthly gas marketing invoices with reference to the related gas marketing deals and delivering all related SOX controls. This is a dynamic position due to the number of varied marketing contracts where you will work closely and effectively with marketing and commercial to review monthly gas marketing deals. Knowledge of accounting transactions related to gas processing is preferred. 


The role is responsible for preparing the monthly gas and NGL estimate and for operated and non-operated wells, and supporting the month end close process by analyzing volumetric, contractual, and financial results, providing actual vs estimate variance explanations, and preparing the gas and NGL margin analysis.  Monthly responsibilities include reconciling pipeline statements, imbalance calculations, balance sheet reconciliations as well as preparing monthly transportation, revenue, and inventory schedules and the cash forecast for Treasury.


An effective ability to analyze, interpret and present financial information for all gas plant assets is required.  The position includes delivering SOX controls, accounting estimates, invoices, and financial analytics and analysis.  You will be responsible and accountable for ensuring that all deliverables and reported financial data are complete, accurate, timely and that the accounting records follow contractual agreements, GAAP, SOX controls and Company Policy.


The applicant will have proven experience of successfully managing relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders, while delivering accurate and timely processing of customer and vendor invoicing in a time sensitive environment. The individual will work closely with the rest of the gas plant accounting team as well as working with Hess India team members that input to the process. A key part of the role is to cultivate collaborative relationships working with the other Revenue teams, Commercial, Marketing, Finance Support, Operations, Gas Measurement groups, as well as internal and external auditors which are all critical to successful delivery.


The job requires a proactive team player with high standards of excellence and attention to detail required for delivering accurate financials, a self-starter who can multi-task, and work both independently and as part of a team. 

The accountant will have sound SAP or another accounting system experience, with proven experience in booking accounting journal entries and strong excel skills.

  • Responsible for the critical process of preparing the monthly gas marketing invoices in SAP Sales & Distribution, with reference to the related gas marketing deals and delivering all related SOX controls
  • Work closely and effectively with marketing and commercial to review monthly gas marketing deals
  • Participate in commercial and marketing meetings to understand all current marketing activities and changes
  • Responsible for reconciling pipeline statements, including imbalance calculations
  • Responsible for preparing the monthly revenue and transportation schedule
  • Responsible for preparing the monthly gas and NGL estimate for operated and non-operated wells
  • Support the month end close process by analyzing volumetric, contractual, and financial results, providing actual vs estimate variance explanations
  • Responsible for preparing the monthly gas and NGL margin analysis schedule
  • Responsible for preparing the monthly inventory schedule and perform the quarterly LCM calculations
  • Responsible for coordinating and processing prior period adjustments
  • Record monthly journal entries (revenues, expenses, and inventories) in SAP
  • Prepare the monthly cash forecast for Treasury
  • Oversee reconciliation of monthly/quarterly Balance Sheet accounts
  • Provide responses for SOX and external audit queries for E&Y / third party audits
  • Provide timely response to internal and external inquiries (third parties and owners)
  • Participate in ongoing lean review and continuous improvement of accounting procedures, controls, and documenting processes





  • 5 years oil & gas experience, gas plant accounting experience is a plus
    • Knowledge of gas processing contracts and transactions is a plus
  • SAP/PRA knowledge preferred
  • TIPS experience would be a plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational and documentation skills
  • Self-starter who works proactively and is able to multi-task
  • Good interpersonal, communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in time-sensitive environment and meet deadlines


Education, Training & Certifications

  • Business or Accounting degree preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills needed
