POSITION SUMMARY
Plans, leads, and monitors drilling and completions digital well planning projects from initiation through completion. Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, progress reporting, troubleshooting, and stakeholder management. Coordinates onshore cross-functional teams through meetings and progresses activities, which bring distinct, specific digital projects to completion both on time and within budget.
Works within the onshore asset team to identify, map, and digitize well designs and well planning workflows and standards. Coordinates with the wells central team to create and maintain onshore asset specific wells digital strategies. Wide-ranging experience uses well planning and well execution concepts, digital acumen, and asset objectives to resolve complex issues and lead change management initiatives to improve well planning and execution processes. Typically requires a degree and a minimum of 5+ years of onshore wells experience.
The Digital Well Planning Engineer role (Onshore – Bakken) is intended to manage and adapt continuously to project, asset, and team goals. This highly collaborative role will need to work closely with asset stakeholders along with technology and other functional teams to plan and execute digital solutions for the Bakken wells team. This role will also help coordinate and lead data science projects for the asset wells team, utilizing both internal and external sources.
The candidate will have proven well delivery experience and knowledge along with experience in process improvements and change management initiatives. Ideally, the candidate will have a strong passion and desire to learn more about digital technologies, rig automation, and problem solve to find ways to improve the overall onshore wells delivery process.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide key inputs to asset (Bakken) specific wells digital strategies
- Lead cross-discipline teams through the full project lifecycle of digital design and technical projects –working directly with the wells central team and wells automation SME.
- Effectively collaborate with project stakeholders, end-users, business partners, 3rd party providers, and technical team members.
- Establish project scope, create schedules, develop estimates with a team, manage deliverables, and control risks and changes.
- Manage multiple digital / technology / data science projects on different tracks.
- Proactively seek to improve existing processes and implement digital processes where necessary.
- Digital technology scouting and creating recommendations for internal wells applications.
- Work with internal and external resources to lead wells-related data science projects.
- Create / update asset SOPs, wells project workflows, and wells related KPIs.
- Coordinate computer application support (Landmark Tools, WellView, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- 5+ years of onshore oil and gas or project management experience equivalent
- Experience in leading/working with cross-discipline/ geographically distributed teams through a digital / technical project lifecycle.
- Previous experience in working/leading data science projects.
- Strong knowledge of onshore drilling/completions planning and onshore operations processes.
- A strong understanding of NDIC permitting/regulatory operations requirements or equivalent.
- Experience with Digital Well Planning tools. Landmark and/or Schlumberger software suite, etc.
- Working knowledge of IoT topics with an understanding of their application within Oil and Gas.
- Comfortable working on Excel, PowerBI, Spotfire, Tableau or other data/visualization tools
Skills & Attributes
- Experience in meeting facilitation and project management.
- Solid understanding of onshore drilling and completions fundamentals.
- Well-versed in industry best-practices, current technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.
- Coding is not a must have but is encouraged.
Education, Training & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution
- Lean Methodology understanding is strongly desired.
- Solid understanding and use of the following tools: Microsoft Office 365/Teams/SharePoint, Halliburton Landmark Tools, WellView
