POSITION SUMMARY
This position is for an Emerging Technology Specialist to join the CTO organization.  The CTO organization seeks to improve our business performance through technology application and enable Hess to thrive in a continually disruptive world.  The responsibilities of this position include collaborating with assets to define, enable and implement technology breakthroughs.  The position will engage with the technology startup ecosystem, traditional suppliers, and research firms, as well as entities outside of the energy industry. Key internal interfaces include executive leadership, asset teams/management, and the various functional leaders including Supply Chain, Facilities/Projects and CIO organization. This position is significantly outward facing and serves as the organization’s interface with the external technology ecosystem. 

 

The focus of the position will be to manage the technology funnel process in order to enable the identification, tracking, notifications, categorization, prioritization, pilot readiness and performance metrics of our technology scouting and implementation process.  While this process has already been established, continuous improvement to adapt to the accelerating pace of technology experimentation within the organization will be a priority.  This effort will include coordination of interactions and ideas with internal and external parties (including venture capital, technology scouting firms, startup incubators, strategic suppliers, etc.).

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage internal process for scouting, validating, and implementing new technologies through the Hess Technology Funnel and Pilot Project Processes.
  • Network internally and externally (including outside of E&P industry).  Build relationships and contacts in assets/functions/IT, suppliers, competitors, start-ups, external industries
  • Scan for technologies applicable to solve business problems and enable future visions
  • Propose technology product development and pilots
  • Develop pilot implementation plans and business alignment.  Track and support implementation via important metrics.  Apply lean/agile/project management tools.
  • Conceive and evaluate economics and provide pilot and scale-up justification
  • Provide strategy development support

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Oil & Gas, 8 or more years strongly preferred
  • Broad understanding of core principles of the Upstream business with specialist knowledge in at least one functional and/or technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop novel approaches to complex problems. Ability to articulate and clearly communicate problems and solutions in a concise and logical manner
  • Free thinker with the ability to find alternatives to conventional methods or new ways of doing work
  • Active listener with the ability to understand organizational pain points and translate to opportunities through technology scouting.
  • Demonstrated strong influencing capabilities
  • Works well in a collaborative environment; actively shares best practices and is a team player

  • Effective multitasker with the ability to handle significant and broad assignment of break-in work while maintaining core responsibilities.

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Sciences, Technology, Engineering, or Math.  Master’s degree or higher preferred (required for Geosciences).
