POSTION SUMMARY

 

This position will be responsible for non-US tax planning and providing day-to-day tax advice for exploration, production and crude oil marketing operations for the Americas and Asia. This is a highly visible role within the company and will involve working directly with key asset-level business, commercial and finance groups.

 

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and have the ambition to master complex organizational structures and business transactions, frequently changing tax laws, and an ever-evolving accounting regulatory environment.

 

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise the company on operations, contracts, acquisitions, disposals, and farm-ins
  • Attend meetings with asset-level and commercial teams, identify structuring alternatives for a new or ongoing projects and their associated tax benefits and disadvantages
  • Analyze the indirect tax consequences of transacting in new jurisdictions including withholding tax and VAT
  • Manage implementation of projects to improve the tax-efficiency of a business unit
  • Update the business units on proposed tax changes and advise and implement strategies to mitigate negative tax impacts
  • Prepare technical memoranda to support tax positions taken in connection with business transactions
  • Coordinate with Tax Accounting group to ensure awareness of changes in tax law and/or circumstances that impact tax accounting
  • Review local income tax return positions and analysis of provision-to-return adjustments
  • Manage and negotiate settlements on income and non-income tax audits
  • Monitor uncertain tax positions and recommend the creation or release of reserves under ASC 740 or ASC 450
  • Work with Finance and Treasury groups on forming and maintaining structures funding exploration activities
  • Design and maintain structures for tax efficient transfers of cash between jurisdictions

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in a corporate tax department, host country planning required
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industry preferred
  • Ability to clearly explain and present complex concepts to a non-tax audience
  • Demonstrated experience with managing multiple priorities at the same time and seeing projects completed on a timely basis
     

Education

Must have J.D. or Masters in Taxation
