Position Summary

Responsible for working as part of the Bakken Asset IT, acting as the conduit between the business teams and Information Technology (IT).  Identifying and understanding business needs and problems that can be addressed with current or new technology solutions. Ensuring that these opportunities are prioritized and aligned with the overall business goals while also meeting the needs of the IT strategy, standards, and security.


The ideal candidate will have good business acumen, ability to think critically, an understanding of production and/or midstream operations and proven track record for establishing effective relationships.  These relationships will enable the candidate to represent Asset needs and champion efforts driven from central IT. 


Key attributes for success include transparency, ownership, delivery focus, flexibility, self-motivation, desire to learn, collaborative nature, passion for improvement, clarity of communications and strong business analysis skills. As the role covers a broad range of IT services, the expectation is that the ideal person will have the ability to understand or learn many business processes and IT technologies, without having to be an expert in each.  For example, the candidate would need the ability to understand and speak to business processes to translate them to an IT team to kick off potential project planning/design efforts.


Roles & Responsibilities

Business Relationship Management

  • Work with business partners to understand IT, business needs and challenges for the Bakken asset.  Shephard any new requests through the IT prioritization process to ensure the right efforts are being worked.
  • Work to ensure the rest of the IT function understands the specifics and needs around their work for these assets, ensuring that realistic understanding of impacts, cyber-security and change management is embedded in all IT efforts.
  • Be a champion of the IT incident management processes and continue to drive embedment to all users, as well as, be the voice for the business to ensure processes do not negatively impact operations.

Asset Optimization

  • Deliver the IT strategy and journey map, articulating the IT strategy by demonstrating where it can bring additional benefits to the business
  • Identify opportunities for leveraging current and emerging technologies (i.e. automation, analytics, technology pilots, etc.) to empower business performance
  • Champion cyber security and the inherent need for secure data/operations

Service Delivery & Quality

  • Drive end-to-end service quality and processes within the Asset
  • Understand the urgency of issues to drive timely resolution of issues and requests

Project Management

  • Plan, schedule, and direct resources and activities to deliver Asset IT initiatives
  • Coordinate resources and actions to deliver Central IT initiatives




Customer Focus

  • Ensures commitments to Asset are met, solicits opinions and ideas from Asset, and responds to Asset inquiries

Formal and informal written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to adjust for a wide array of audiences ranging from Senior IT Leadership to the operating VP’s and their staffs. 
  • Listening to and understanding each audience's vantage point, then adapting data and information delivery to them and the IT organization.
  • The ability to communicate and advocate an IT point of view to both technical and business constituencies.


  • Working understanding of financial budgeting, forecasting and analysis.


Education, Certifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Project Management; or related field of study; or related professional experience
  • Experience with working with Information Technology including project management and business analysis
  • Experience in building and maintaining trusted partnerships, allowing the individual to influence decisions and work through conflict
  • 5+ years Industry experience either in IT or Oil and Gas preferred
