POSITION SUMMARY

The Process Safety Specialist will have accountability for execution and coordination of Process Safety Activities for Hess’s non-PSM covered Upstream Assets in North Dakota. The Process Safety Coordinator will provide guidance and TA3 level support for process safety. This role will report to the Director of Operations - Bakken.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the coordination and execution of work programs to uphold Hess Corporation Process Safety requirements for upstream processes. Primarily interfacing with operations and engineering personnel, upper management, EHS and internal regulatory teams.
  • Coordinate the Management of Change (MOC) process across the relevant areas of the upstream asset to ensure compliance with the Hess MOC standard.
  • Organize, plan, and lead Risk Assessments, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Hazard and Operability studies (HAZOP), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) sessions, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) as needed for the asset.
  • Provide TA3 support for process safety related incident investigations and root-cause analysis (RCA) reviews.
  • Work with teams to track process safety related audit and general action items from PHAs, MOCs, and RCAs to ensure timely closure of open items.
  • Support, train and coach personnel within operations, and engineering on Hess process safety requirements and risk assessment activities.
  • Provide TA3 support to Reliability Operations for the Safety System Bypass process in the  Upstream assets.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in Process Safety Management or equivalent experience, preferably with an oil and gas operator.
  • Must be able to show and demonstrate specific knowledge of Process Safety principles, knowledge and compliance requirements with  regulatory codes (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of oil and gas value streams are required, including but not limited to upstream well site facilities (pads, flowlines/gathering lines, oil, and gas separation, etc.)
  • Must be proficient in reading Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Cause and Effects charts (C&E).
  • Familiar with industry standards and recommended practices (API, NFPA, ASME, etc.)
  • Must have a solid knowledge and be able to facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Hazard and Operability studies (HAZOP), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) sessions, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for the asset.

 

Requisite Knowledge Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to learn and utilize PSM software, PHA Professional, etc.
  • Ability to read, interpret and update Process Safety Information (PSI)
  • Knowledge of PSM regulations and application of regulations
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to Upstream facilities

 

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical field.  
  • Related experience with non-PSM covered facilities in a technical or Process Safety role.
  • Qualified Process Hazard Analysis leader
  • Process Safety Management or applicable related formal education
