Integrity Engineer - Field Job

HYBRID ELIGIBILITY

This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Tioga, ND. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off every other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees field pipeline integrity activities for Hess North Dakota pipelines, including but not limited to in-line inspection (ILI) coordination, integrity dig oversite, failure investigation, and repair recommendations/support. 
  • Coordinates with engineering teams, operations, non-destructive examination (NDE) contractors, dig contractors, repair contractors, land, regulatory,
  • and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of field activities to meet Integrity team schedules. Support outlining timelines, resource requirements, and deliverables as needed.
  • Executes ILI runs and coordinates efforts with operations and contractors to ensure a high likelihood of run success. This includes reviewing pipeline documents, historical data, and operating parameters.
  • Responsible for ILI follow-up activities, including validation digs, inspections, and repairs. 
    • Verifying dig location is correct based on data supplied
    • Verifying significant anomalies are discovered, correctly located, and that field results are correctly aligned with ILI run data
    • Ensuring that coating and pipe repairs are performed completely, well documented, and performed with quality 
    • Verifying reports are complete and accurate while ensuring proper Operator Qualification (OQ) of field personnel.
  • Select appropriate NDE techniques to ensure the identification of anomalies.
  • Prepares detailed reports of integrity work scopes to submit to corresponding integrity team members summarizing findings. Review and maintain accurate records of inspections, assessments, and repair activities.
  • Collects quality data and supports engineering analysis of results – remaining strength, corrosion growth rates, remaining life, and reassessment intervals.
  • Communicates results and recommendations to all appropriate parties.
  • Ensures proper document retention and ensure all project and survey data, records, and reports are kept in the appropriate database.
  • Leads and supports field failure investigations and root cause analysis. Provide 'boots on the ground' support to gather failure data and ensure appropriate countermeasures are taken.
  • Provides input and advice for Management of Changes as it relates to pipeline integrity.
  • Ensures compliance with industry regulations, standards, recommended practices, and environmental guidelines.
  • Develops and improves program standards, processes, and procedures, and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting Hess for the purpose of recommending changes in process.
  • Monitors daily field activities to ensure cost control measures are in place. 
  • Manages multiple project accruals/forecasts and other project accounting and reporting activities.
  • Reviews and approves contractor invoices or daily field tickets.
  • Drives embedment of Hess safety procedures, best practices and standard work as defined by the expectation of a safety leader.  
  • Designs and/or maintains key dashboards and metrics to support safety, quality, delivery, and cost visibility as part of operational control process.


QUALIFICATIONS
Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years oil and gas industry experience or equivalent industry related experience
  • Experience in pipeline integrity assessments preferred
  • Knowledge of pipeline materials, corrosion mechanisms, inspection techniques, and integrity assessment methods 
  • Proficiency in reading and marking up P&ID and Pipeline Construction Drawings
  • Working knowledge of PHMSA 49, CFR 195, and 49 CFR 192 as it pertains to pipeline integrity
  • Preferred: Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards such as:
    • API 570, API 579-1 /ASME FFS-1, API 1163, API 1183, ASME/BPVC, ASME B31G, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, ASME B31.8s, NACE SP0204, AMPP/NACE SP0169 to name a few
  • Understanding of ILI and NDE technology, capabilities, and limitations
  • Understanding of threats to pipeline integrity
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, SAP, GIS) 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and process improvements
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision in a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to manage activities for multiple projects in parallel while effectively managing time and resources required. 

 

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.

Work Environment

  • Role in Tioga, ND on a 9/80 work schedule with field visits as needed
