ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Main focus will be the management of the internal corrosion (IC) control program for Gas Gathering Midstream Pipelines and Facilities throughout North Dakota (ND). Responsibility for internal corrosion control records, chemical and IC control pigging program, product sampling and corrosive investigations, as well as corrosion monitoring equipment installation and data acquisition.
  • Monitor effectiveness of the chemical program as it relates to IC control.
  • Develop and maintain Engineering Standards for the IC control program. Assess and improve current Engineering Standards throughout the company and asset.
  • Through alignment with area teams, prioritize work to provide engineering support to enable ND Midstream assets to achieve business goals.
  • When IC or chemicals are problematic, conduct root cause analysis (RCA) according to business rules, and confirm implementation and effectiveness of countermeasures.  Communicate best practices and lessons learned across areas.
  • Provide 'boots on the ground' support when needed to gather failure data and ensure appropriate countermeasures are taken.
  • Provide corrosion engineering input to the design of new projects and the standardization and selection of equipment, parts, and components.
  • Provide input and advice for Management of Changes as it relates IC control.
  • Provide coaching and/or training to Hess Field Operations and Engineering based on business priority for chemical treatments, IC monitoring/mitigations, and product sampling and corrosive investigations.
  • Provide engineering leadership and/or guidance as required to deliver major interventions and countermeasures for non-routine, reactive activities.  Liaise with Process Engineering and Midstream Reliability Operators to ensure alignment with affected systems.
  • Identify and work with area Engineers to implement opportunities (e.g. new chemicals, processes, or technologies) for cost reduction through system and process optimization.
  • Advise on area’s yearly and monthly budgets with Hess Field Operations and Engineering input. 
  • Responsible for regulatory compliance as it pertains to the internal corrosion program for DOT PHMSA regulated pipelines. 
  • Drives embedment of Hess safety procedures, best practices and standard work as defined by the expectation of a safety leader.  This includes ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures, as well as, lead, perform, and/or participate in 5S, accident investigation, safety audits and related activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS               

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience working in the chemical or corrosion engineering space for the oil and gas industry
  • Excellent knowledge of internal corrosion control treatments used in the oil and gas industry
  • Excellent knowledge of PHMSA 49 CFR 195 and 49 CFR 192 as it pertains to internal corrosion requirements
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, SAP)
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and process improvements
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision in a diverse, multidiscipline team environment
  • Ability to manage activities for multiple projects in parallel while effectively managing time and resources required

 

 Education, Training & Certifications   

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Corrosion Engineering preferred

Work Environment             

  • Role in Tioga, ND on a 9/80 work schedule with field visits as needed
  • Field Time (“go see”, meetings/collaboration) – 25%
  • Desk Time (admin, invoices, data analysis, emails) – 75%
