Roles & Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for maintaining and configuration of electronic equipment such as Transmitters, Control Valves, PLC's and Operator Interface units, and various other instrumentation equipment. This role is also responsible for Servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining various electrical equipment such and motors, variable frequency drives, motor control centers, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), etc.
- Standard Work / Abnormality Management
- Performs Preventative and Corrective Maintenance on all of the following:
- H2S and LEL monitors, pressure/temperature/vibration/flow transmitters, Level gauges,
- Plant and Compressors and related equipment.
- Allen-Bradley PLC's, Panelviews, and RTU equipment used at various sites.
- Maintenance of radio, and fiber and wire Ethernet SCADA systems
- Installs and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
- Troubleshoot and Maintain plc’s, 480v power, 120 control circuit, 4160 volts switch gear, transformers, motors, electronic controls by following electrical drawings and test equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair control and distribution system, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
- Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical system for equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
- Writes notifications and inputs into the Work Management System.
- Works off a daily schedule that is pulled from the Work Management System.
- Assists in parts inventory for all I&E parts.
- Assesses risks and builds Job Safety Analysis and Permit to Work documents prior to any job being executed.
- Provides input and feedback on each job that is executed as part of the work order close out process.
- Contributes to problem solving activities related to equipment failures.
- Strong Lean knowledge and/or demonstrates ability to learn following skills:
- Participate/use: Standard Work Instructions, Structured Problem Solving, Dashboards and Operating Rhythm, 5S, Mistake Proofing.
- Demonstrates Leading at Hess Competencies including but not limited to:
- Able to influence without authority across organizational boundaries.

Experience/Skills
- Preferred 2-5 years working in an industrial environment maintaining and troubleshooting electrical instrumentation and equipment.
- Working knowledge of PLC systems.
- Knowledge of low and medium high voltage electrical distribution systems and distribution.
- Demonstrates use of:
- Correct hand tool (e.g., brass hammer, crescent wrench) selection and use when completing work activities.
- Process and data meters to capture measurement point, voltage and ohm readings (e.g., Fluke Meter 787, Fluke Multi-Meter 754, HART & 438 Power Quality).
- HART Interface Field Device to map radar gauges and save echo curves (e.g., Emmerson 475 field communicator, Emmerson TREX, HART interface software for PC).
- VOM, phase rotation meter, and insulation testers.
- Proper valve and actuator installation, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
- Demonstrates ability to locate, read, and interpret: cause and effect (C&E) diagrams, standards/specifications/codes, and functional specifications/control narratives.
- Possesses knowledge of:
- Electrical concepts - voltage, current, resistance, reactance, impedance, direct current, mechanical vs. electrical energy.
- Stored energy - batteries, uninterruptable power supplies, generators, and motors.
- Application and use of electrical components, such as, motors, generators, transformers, capacitors, inductors, resistors, circuit breakers, electrical switchgear, motor control centers, motor operated valves, electrical relays, time delay relays, fuses, and their application in I&C system design.
- Electrical testing processes and use of testing instruments and measuring devices (e.g., voltmeter, ammeter, multimeter, and ohmmeter).
- Relationship between calibration, precision, and accuracy to the design and maintenance of I&C systems.
- Design requirements of electrical safety class and safety significant instrumentation and control systems (i.e., independence, redundance, diversity, and separation).
- Use of electrical components (e.g., analog relays, relay logic, motors, motor operated valves) as they related to I&C systems design.
- Electrical components (e.g., analog relays, relay logic, motors, motor operated valves) are reviewed, and analyzed to ensure design requirements are met.
- Normal and abnormal environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, moisture, high winds, etc.) impact electrical components and I&C design.
- Fluid mechanics (e.g., resistance to compression, pressure, temperature, viscosity, etc.) and how it impacts performance of valves, actuators, motors, compressors, instrument air systems, dampers, HEPA filters and pumps.
Education/Training
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proficient (limited assistance) with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word.
- Journeymen Electricians License preferred but not required (required for certain tasks).
- Electrical or instrumentation Associate’s degree preferred.
